Smothered Fish Dinner

Fresh Turnip Greens from our Garden

When my grandmother and mom were in town a few weeks ago, we planned one gigantic meal to cook in our tiny, tiny kitchen. There were only four of us eating (not counting the dog, who got plenty of handouts that night), but there were five dishes of pretty epic size.

For this meal, I documented a bunch in pictures and video, but resisted the urge to recipe everything here. There were so many options and as many other food bloggers would know, keeping a space tidy for photographs when you have several active dishes is, well, next to impossible. Combine that with my grandmother's resistance to momentarily pausing for photos, and you'll see that capturing the entire meal was harder than I thought.

Our meal consisted of:

  • Smothered fish (smothered in black mushrooms, onions, Chinese sausage, and the likes)
  • Stir fried turnip greens (from our garden)
  • Bitter melon with BBQ pork
  • BBQ pork ribs (bought 'em, yup)
  • Chinese chives with eggs
