Pintxos!
We had a lovely brunch with Dianne and Jim this morning - I love Serafina for breakfast. There's nothing like a steaming hot plate of polenta patties (they called them gnocchi) with tangy tomato sauce to start the day.
We worked in the yard a while while the weather was lovely, and when we were done, we decided to cook a little snack at home. We'd watched an episode of Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie featuring Jose Andres (whose show on PBS we watch regularly too) and realized we had everything we needed in the house to create a perfect pintxos fest.
OK, I failed to mention we'd been to the Spanish Table earlier in the week so we were well stocked with the essentials - Basque cheese, peppadew peppers, a nice dried chorizo, some small potatoes, and a great olive oil. We stuffed the cheese into the peppers and fried them up. Simple. Fried some potatoes and put a slice of chorizo onto the hot, oily slice. Next? Fried eggs in a bath of the olive oil, and also baked up some whole wheat pizza crust as an accompanying flatbread (washed with olive oil, garlic, and rosemary). Along with the nice bottle of wine and a dry cidre from Asturias, we were set!
